After going 0-3 against Kevin Durant and company in the regular season, the Minnesota Timberwolves (57-26, 31-11 home, 41-40-2 ATS) made a big statement in the opener of their best-of-seven series with the Phoenix Suns (49-34, 24-18 away, 35-46-2 ATS) on Saturday, running away with a 120-95 win.
Oddsmakers took notice and the odds for Game 2, which tips at 6:40 pm CT/7:40 pm ET on Tuesday night, have moved significantly in Minnesota’s favor.

The Suns were slight -115 favorites to win the best-of-seven series before Game 1. Heading into Game 2, the T-Wolves are now -150 chalk to advance in the NBA playoff bracket, where they would face the winner of the Lakers/Nuggets series.
T-Wolves Run Away With Series Opener
The Suns kept Game 1 close for a quarter but the final 36 minutes were all Timberwolves on Saturday night. A 34-23 second quarter allowed Minnesota to take a ten-point lead into halftime and that grew to 20 points by the end of the third quarter.
Minnesota dominated almost every facet of the game. Not only did the T-Wolves shoot considerably better from the floor (50% vs 44%), they absolutely embarrassed the Suns on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 52-28, including 13-3 at the offensive end. Minnesota center Rudy Gobert grabbed 16 boards (six offensive rebounds) while Phoenix center Jusuf Nurkic finished with just four (none on offense).
Anthony Edwards, who failed to score more than 17 points against the Suns in three regular-season meetings, had a game-high 33 points on 14-of-26 shooting.
Kevin Durant was the only Sun who looked ready to play in Game 1. KD finished with 31 points on 11-of-17 shooting along with a team-high seven rebounds, but he also committed five turnovers and was -20 while on the court (the worst +/- of the game).
The horrendous performance on the glass was out of character for the Suns, who finished seventh in the NBA in rebound percentage (51.4%), which was actually one spot ahead of the Timberwolves (50.8%)

Edwards’s point total for Game 2 remains at 25.5 O/U. Durant’s, however, has been moved up two full points from 24.5 to 26.5. After his awful performance on the glass, Nurkic still has a rebound total of 10.5, identical to Game 1.
Phoenix Suns vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction
Bettors can expect a better effort from the Suns, who looked lethargic in Game 1. But I don’t see that resulting in a 25-point turnaround for Phoenix. Gobert absolutely dominated his matchup with Nurkic in the post. The Frenchman was bigger, stronger, and faster, and he’s still going to be bigger, stronger, and faster in Game 2. Minnesota also has better perimeter defenders and, if Edwards continues attacking the basket like he did on Saturday, should be able to muster more than enough offense to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
PHX vs MIN picks:
Timberwolves moneyline (-152) at FanDuelNurkic under 10.5 rebounds (-115)
