Turkish Airlines Open: A perfect end to the season for Kaymer

Turkish Airlines Open: A perfect end to the season for Kaymer

Why the popular German should be backed to end another successful season on a high in Turkey

Kaymer has been a world class performer on the European tour for many years now and is starting to play some of the best golf of his career. The Turkish Airlines Open is the next big scalp for the world number 12, who looks like a real contender to make his return to this event a winning one.

It’s been another impressive season for the German, who goes into the Turkish Airlines Open as one of the star names. His form this year will send the two-time major winner into this tournament full of confidence, as he looks to fight off a tough field over in Turkey.

This campaign he has achieved a third straight Ryder Cup appearance, having heroically holed the winning putt in last year’s competition and also emphatically winning the US Open Championship in June.

With the taste of success already this season, the US Open Championship holder should improve on last year’s performance at the tournament. Having finished joint 25th in 2013, many fans will be backing the popular German to produce a better score this time around and finish at the right end of the leaderboard.

This course favours an aggressive style and the man ranked 10th in the Race to Dubai Rankings appears respectably in the driving distance tables this season, at 34th he is placed better than a lot of his competitors this weekend. The course also includes five par 5 holes, which could well play into his hands.

It won’t be easy for Kaymer in Turkey, who faces Ryder Cup colleagues Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson and defending champion Victor Dubuisson. However, the German is a man who regularly performs on the big stage, having already secured 22 professional wins in his career.

His record at the latter stages of the season is impressive, having won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship three times and claiming the WGC-HSBC Champions title in 2011.

Expect the 11 time European Tour winner to take the title with the help of his aggressive play from the tee.
